Contents of the ISO 14006 Standard

A) Identification and evaluation of aspects

The organization must identify the environmental aspects, that is, the elements that can cause impacts on the environment, throughout the entire life cycle of the product or service, of each of the products to be designed or redesigned.

Subsequently, their importance as generators of impacts on the environment is evaluated.

B) Legal requirements and other requirements

A system is established to identify and keep up to date the environmental legal requirements applicable exclusively to the product or service to be designed or redesigned, as a prior step to their incorporation into the design process to ensure compliance.

C) Operational control

Through operational control, a systematic identification, control and continuous improvement of the environmental aspects of all the organization’s products or services is incorporated into the design and development process.

D) Communication

Communication is one of the important requirements within the system, including both internal and external information flow.

It is also key to actively provide information to the affected agents throughout the life cycle about their actions for the optimal environmental performance of the product, for example, to consumers in the use stage or recyclers in the recycling stage.
